Susan Chandler - Felt Artist - Connemara Art Link

“The process of felt making is a true passion of mine. After spending many years exploring different mediums I was introduced to wool and felting and fell in love with this ancient craft. Since then, I have explored and experimented with different techniques and from that emerged a passion for creating ‘paintings’ using wool and often silk fibres. The tactile and versatile nature of wool allows me to create truly unique felt pieces in many different forms, from wall hangings to wearable art in the form of nuno felted wraps, scarves and brooches, as well as 3 dimensional pieces and needle felted wool sculptures. For me, it is easy to be inspired by the magnificent landscape that surrounds me here in Connemara and I strive to capture the essence of the land and nature in my work.”

Susan has been living in Connemara with her husband for the past 2 years and says that moving from Dublin to the west coast truly enabled her to evolve as an artist. Her work is in private collections from Australia to Bahamas, Denmark, Uk, USA and Ireland. Her wearable art and selected items are available from “Ohh By Gum!” in Clifden. She had taught workshops on felt making and aims to teach more predominately in the local area and is currently working on a certification from NUI Galway to put together more varied courses in felt making.
