Caroline King trained as a silversmith in 1999 in Penzance, Cornwall, under the tuition of Edward (Eddie) Williams. She opened The Micah Gallery, Chapel St, Penzance, Cornwall in 2000 to display artwork from various local and Irish artists. Potters, Glassware and up and coming silversmiths.
From Penzance, she along with her daughter and husband moved to Roundstone County Galway, where she now works from home producing jewellery in silver. 9-carat gold and Bronze, copper and other alloys. Her ideas and inspiration are drawn from the beautiful landscapes and seascapes of Connemara. Caroline's use of different metals is influenced by the seasons, she creates each piece using various techniques such as Plannishing (hammering a pattern into the metal) and Reticulation (where by the metal is heated to melting point and forms its own shape and texture). She makes earrings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets, brooches, wedding rings and engagement rings in her own unique style.
“When I was very young, every summer was spent on either the beach or the local lido. With my twin and friends, we learnt to dive by swimming through each other’s legs. Once when my twin surfaced in her hand there was the most beautiful little silver handmade ring, I fell in love with it and from that moment, I knew that one day I had to be a silversmith. That was over 38 years ago. It is really never too late to follow your dreams.”
Caroline makes beautiful, necklaces, bracelets and earrings from beads which some she has she has collected over the years are bright and colourful and can be purchased very reasonably every Sunday through out the summer form The Roundstone Farmers Market.
