completed a degree in design in Dublin Institute of Technology in 1988 and then a further year of study in Limerick Institute of technology in 1995. In 1997, she moved to Connemara to take up a position in the Furniture Technology Centre in Letterfrack, and is now teaching Art and Design to adults in Letterfrack and Clifden.
She joined the Atlantic Artists group and exhibited with them from 2003. She has also exhibited in the United States and, in 2006, had a solo show in The Grand Opera House, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. She has exhibited in Belfast and around Connemara in various group exhibitions.
Her work is in private collections in Ireland, the U.K., the U.S.A. and Singapore.
Most visitors to Connemara are only able to obtain fleeting impressions of the area’s visual richness and depth. It is perceived as inaccessible because people only get sweeping images of the area from a distance. The weather can be an obstacle to access. The elements of rain, wind, mist, fog and cloud can conceal aspects of the environment and make it difficult to explore. The colours and tones are constantly changing and there is always a transient quality to the landscapes. The astonishing rapidity of the changes in the weather interacts with the solidity of the physical landscape. At times the interaction creates striking, spectacular and always beautiful combinations of colours, tones and textures even when subdued.
Fabric and thread are perfect materials through which to convey this complex interaction. Various fibres in different forms can be combined to produce an infinite variety of colours, tones and textures. The use of absorbent and reflective materials in her work echoes the brilliance which occurs so momentarily in the landscape.
